CAPE TOWN CARNIVAL 2019/2020

The Cape Town Carnival is like the Rio Carnival, but with an African twist. Groups from all over the Western Cape perform in this one day spectacle that draws thousands of spectators every year. In reality the Carnival is so much more than just that. It is a NGO that supports the local community, creates jobs and keeps kids off the streets. They prepare year round and are very passionate about this event. We helped them form a new communication strategy and advised them on how to bring this work to life. We then conceptualised the branding and communication for their 2019/2020 theme.
KEY VISUAL
Our leading lady represents one of the first people that inhabited South Africa. She is the African Goddess of Time and leads us through the ages of The Incredible Journey, as we tell the story of our country. She was brought to life by illustrator, Anja Venter.

COLOURS
The colours were inspired by the colours of sunset, a symbol of the passing of time.

This is how we interpreted the colours into the logo.

COLLETERAL
Here are a few examples on how we brought these elements together. Unfortunately the Carnival was postponed because of COVID-19, so some of these elements haven’t been used.
ANNUAL REPORT
Even though the carnival didn't happen they still needed an annual report. Without beautiful event photos, we decided to make the report a diary, as it too is part of the Incredible Journey.
